What a workable supplier brief includes
A useful brief reduces avoidable clarification before a supplier can assess whether the request is practical.

Describe the product in operational terms
Start with the intended product, key dimensions or materials, target market, expected quantity and the date by which goods are needed. Reference images can help, but they should not replace the written requirements that influence price or compliance.
Separate required details from preferences
Mark which details are mandatory and which are open to supplier advice. This is especially useful for packaging, color, labeling and accessory choices. It gives the supplier room to offer a workable alternative without changing the purpose of the request.
Include the handoff requirements
- State the preferred shipping terms or delivery destination when known.
- List packaging and carton-marking requirements before production is released.
- Identify any documents the receiving team will need at handoff.
A clear request does not guarantee availability, but it gives every party a better basis for evaluating the work.
